Whilst being super busy with other stuff I've been trying to keep up my doodling. If you follow me on Instagram (amyalisha) you will have seen some of these guys forming. Not sure what I'll do with them yet but I do love them, they make me smile! Hope you like them too!

By the way, I've been digging these pens lately, used them for the guys above. They are meant for Japanese calligraphy but they make great drawing pens. They are like a more rigid brush pen. I have trouble making confident strokes with regular brush pens, my lines go a bit wobbly. But these seem to have just enough give to give brush like lines without losing control. Can wait to stock up on them at Itoya when I'm in Tokyo!

Gig Poster

Here's a poster I designed/illustrated for a great gig coming up. It's a fantastic lineup, three artists I absolutely love... only problem being: I'll be in Tokyo when it's on! On the upside, I'll be in Tokyo! And I'll be seeing my favourite band. It's always the way though.

Anyhoo I'm really pleased with the design, spent ages tweaking it. Now I need to stop looking at it because I keep seeing things I want to tweak!

Hello friends, it's been a while! I've been so busy here behind the scenes. My husband's record label is growing bigger so we have moved in to a new office. I work with him on the label as well as doing my own illustration stuff. So I now have a new workspace, which is very nice. I sit next to a window, so I get to watch the sunset every day! It's been a bit of a shock to the system after working from home every day but it certainly has it's advantages, we have a lot more space in our tiny flat now! Anyway, I thought I'd share some random photos I've taken lately. I got the amazingly wonderful Fujifilm x100 (as a wedding present!) and it's sooo nice. I'm really loving the photos from it. I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful piece of equipment! I've edited these with Snapspeed for Mac, which I'm also quite liking.

Christmas

I have just added a couple of Christmas cards to the shop. I wasn't going to do xmas cards because they (obviously) has such a short selling period, but my husband asked me to design some to send out to his clients/suppliers etc so I whipped these up! The front says "Happy Holidays" so as to be politically correct and the inside is blank so you can write whatever you like! Get them over here. Chop chop!

Crafty Fox This Saturday

Hey Londoners! I'm going to be at the Crafty Fox Market at Brixton's Dogstar Pub THIS SATURDAY, December 10th. Come and say hello and stock up on xmas gifts! The market runs all weekend but I'll only be there on Saturday, so that's a good day to pop in!

Fingers crossed I'm going to have some new brooches available on the day. They are being made right now, I'm really hoping they'll be ready by Saturday!

This week I bought a Wacom Bamboo pen to use with my iPad. These are my first play with it, just some random sketching in the Wacom app. It's quite nice to use, takes a little getting used to, but it's much easier to draw with than yr finger! I like it.

Butch Walker

Somewhat off topic.. I wanted to share with you some photos. I took these shots of Butch Walker when he was in London back in July. Not only is Butch's music great, but what a nice guy! Of all the bands I have shot over the years, he has got to be the most relaxed and at ease in front of the lens. He knew how to pose, he knew when to stop yapping so I could get the shot. The wheels on my ol' band photo bike were a little rusty so I was a bit apprehensive about shooting someone so, well, important? But he put me at ease with his manor and I managed to get some shots that I am absolutely chuffed with.

Speaking of photography... I am lusting after this camera so bad. I can't stop thinking about it. I'd never heard of it until I saw it in the incredible B&H Photo in New York over summer. I held it in my hands and it felt like a real camera. It feels so old school that when I hold it, my thumb is looking for the film winding lever!

First of all, thank you to everyone for all the lovely comments and messages on my last post, it's very kind of you!

Today I thought I'd share with you one of my favourite views in New York. This is take from the High Line Park, looking north up 10th Avenue.

The park is built on an old elevated railway line and it gives you a neat perspective of the city the you can't get anywhere else. This section crosses over 10th Ave so you can stand and watch the traffic appear from underneath you. It's pretty cool. The park is a great space that has been developed and landscaped in a really modern yet tasteful way. It's a must if you are in NYC.

Last time we were in New York, that billboard on the left had some horrible slogan plastered on it advertising a car park! This time I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was covered in a beautiful black and white landscape photo of some snowey mountains, with no branding at all! It improved this photo 10 fold!

What I wore...

So... the week before last, we made a spur of the moment decision to pop to New York and get married. We decided on Tuesday, flew out on Friday, registered on Monday and were married on Tuesday!

We were sort of planning to get married, but hadn't set anything solid, so I had bought an outfit to wear but that was it. Husband had to buy a shirt, suit pants and of course we had to find the rings! Our hotel was right by Macy's so we sorted his outfit the day after we arrived. Then I bought some white converse, I wanted something I could wear again, and I never do heals, so a crisp white pair of Chuck Taylors seemed like the way to go. Last it was the rings. We thought for kicks we'd see what they had at Tiffany's, when in Rome right? We wanted silver or white gold rings as we both have an aversion gold jewellery, but apparently Tiffany's don't do either! After that we were led on a bit of a wild goose chase around the city, one shop telling us to go to another, each recommending another that was a cab ride away! We ended up in Greenwich Village, basically a world away from Tiffany's in the diamond district. We were told the stores down there might have something a bit more "alternative". Apparently a plain silver band is "alternative". We asked at a few shops in the village and were met with mostly blank stares and a few people told us to try the diamond district!! Feeling despondent we were walking down Bleeker Street scratching our heads and wondering what to do when we came across a street market. One of the four stalls in the market had rings! Lots of bad rings with dolphins and nike logos, but there shone a small selection of plain silver bands! Eureka! (sorry, bad, tenuous pun). There were maybe six of these bands, and they had the perfect size for each of us! So the biggest ordeal of the whole experience was trying to find the rings, and even that was only about two hours! After that we bought some sleigh bells from the next stall down.

The ceremony was at the City Clerk's Office and it was perfectly nonchalant. We had my husband's(!) mum and a close friend of ours who lives in New York there and the ceremony lasted about two minutes! We didn't even realise the clerk had started the ceremony at first! We only told our immediate family that we were going to do it so it was a big surprise to everyone. Neither of us are into lots of pomp and ceremony and hate being the centre of attention (there's a reason both of us were/are the keyboard players in our respective bands!) so it was just perfect for us. After the deed was done we had a lovely brunch at a place called Imperial Number Nine, then went back to our hotel to change, then went to the top of the Empire State Building! I feel so lucky that we were able to be married in my favourite city in the world! It was such a lovely and perfect day, I wouldn't have changed a thing! We flew home the day after and are now back in London and very happy to be married! ♥

Computer Arts Projects

Just popping in to let you know that there is a little interview with me in the current issue of Computer Arts Projects magazine, issue 155. It's a UK mag and it's in shops right now, I think it will reach europe and the states in the next month or so.

In the interview I talk a little about selling on Etsy. I was chuffed when I was asked to be in Computer Arts Projects because it's a great magazine I often read! This issue is filled with advice for artists wanting to start selling their work online!

I also wanted to let you know that my mug cards should hopefully be back from the printers on Wednesday! I'll let you know when they are up in the shop. I'm working on a series to go with it, you can see another design I've just finished here.

This week I've entered my first competition at Spoonflower! The theme for the contest this week is root vegetables, just in time for the cooler weather. I decided to create some cute characters for my entry. I hope you like them, they make me smile!

But in the interest of chronology I thought I should first show you a few photos from our trip to New York a couple of months ago. Man it was so hot. 40 + half the time we were there. Ehhh, long time no blog... you know how it is..ahem!

So my mum is in town, all the way from Australia. Yesterday I had a small victory by getting her to try sushi! She's not one for trying food that she doesn't know, and she was, like probably a lot of people, under the impression that sushi means raw fish. My victory was made all the sweeter by the fact that she actually liked it, and asked to go again!!! Win!! It was a bit of a chicken extravaganza for her but I stuck to my usual veggie favourites.

We're off to Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Paris for a week from Thursday, so I'll be closing my shop tomorrow. If you need anything, get in there now!

I received the swatches for my new fabric the morning we left for New York, I'm so happy I finally have the chance to show them to you! If you go to my profile on Spoonflower you can see (and buy, obviously..cough cough) all 10 designs. I hope you like them. I think they will make great library bags (do kids still have those?) smocks, pencil cases for the little ones. I'm sure you guys can think of some other great projects to use the fabric for. What I Ate in New York

Whenever I go on a trip I always end up taking loads of photos of meals I eat. Once when I got back from a long tour my friend said to me "I loved your photos...but it kind of looked like 'Amy eats her way around the world'!" He was right. This trip I decided to draw a few things I ate instead of photographing them. A visual food diary I guess. This one could be more aptly titled 'Amy eats a lot of carbs in New York'. Keep Calm and Carry-On

Here's a little illo I did this evening about flying and how we always push the limits with our carry-on bags when our checked in suitcases are stuffed to the max! The trick is to walk like the backpack doesn't weigh 25kgs and tuck your side bag behind you on the opposite side of the person taking your boarding pass. It's a fine art... also I think I read somewhere the other day that you can bring on what ever shopping you bought in the airport with you. Thus proving that airports really are wonderful money making machines!

I'm off to New York next week (hence travel is on my mind!) so I won't be shipping anything from my store between 19th and 28th July, so if you fancy something soon best order it today or over the weekend! I'm incredibly excited about visiting New York again, my favourite place in the world! But I'll save all that for another blog post...

Here is a new print I've put up in my store. It's an illustration I did of a Kodak 155x Instamatic. I’m planning to do a series of illustrations of cameras that I love, I thought I’d start with the first camera I ever used. My mum used to give it to me to take to school camp, along with a packet of flash cubes! I hope you like this print!

I’d also love to do some custom illustrations for people of cameras that they’ve loved. If you have one in mind please get in touch!

Holga for Nikon!

I love my Holga. I love shooting film. I cut my photographic teeth with a Pentax K-1000 and many hours in a darkroom, long before digital photography was within the reach of regular people. But these days I really can't justify the cost of film. And if I'm honest, it's hard to tear yourself away from the instant gratification of digital and I love shooting on our Nikon D90.

A couple of weeks ago I discovered an amazing compromise, a set of Holga lenses for Nikon! There is a regular lens, tele and wide. Like Holga it has fixed focusing modes, person, a few people, a big group of people and mountain, ie close, a bit further, a lot further and infinite, so it's kind of a relief to be able to check if a shot is in focus and reshoot if not.

Above are a few rushed shots I took yesterday. A little lightroom tweaking and I'm pretty pleased with these results!

It's not film, but it's pretty nice. We're off to New York next week (weeeee!) and for me this is a nice compromise when it comes to the dilema of wondering if I should bring a film camera with me or not!

Sacre-Coeur

Here's a really quick sketch I did tonight of Sacre-Coeur in Paris. I think I spent longer fiddling with colours in photoshop than I did on the actual sketch!

I'm really excited to be going back to Paris for a few days in a couple of months with my Mum (who is will be visiting from Australia!). Having done all the major touristy stuff, it will be great to go back and do a bit more exploring. And I've found us a lovely apartment in Montmartre, right next to the Sacre - Coeur! If you have any Paris tips for markets, vintage stores etc, I'd love to hear them!

Here I am! This is what I wore yesterday. Thrilling hu? Black tshirt and jeans is my favourite thing to wear. I get excited when my black tshirts come out of the wash! Also, I'm growing out my bleached hair. I love the colour it was, and it took me so long to achieve perfect coverage, but I just can't afford the upkeep. So right now I have very long, half bleach, half mouse brown hair. Don't know what I'll do when it's grown out. Maybe a box colour red, something cheap! Mouse is just the most boring hair colour ever.

Festival of Britain

Earlier in the week I went to check out the Festival of Britain 60th anniversary exhibition at Festival Hall on South Bank. It's a great capsule of the era with lots of great mid century style stuff. It's a fairly small exhibition but worth checking out if you're near by.

Birthday

Monday was my birthday, my 30th birthday. We went to dinner at what I've decided is my favourite restaurant in London, a Japanese place called Taro in Soho. I had the above bento box and it was so good! I also had some sneaky extra dumplings too (not pictured). There is nothing in this bento box that I don't love (a miracle as I'm a pretty fussy eater..) and I love that you get a little bit of so many things, you don't have to commit to just one dish! The Japanese really have hit a winner with the bento box. I really recommend this restaurant because not only is the food great but the service is top notch too.

***note that I now have a version of the bento illustration available as a print in my store, though I've changed birthday to vegetable!

By the way do you like the font I've used in this illustration? I created it from my very own writing using this website. They give you a page to print and scan, then you upload it and the site magically builds it for you. You can preview it and if you like it you pay $5 USD and it's yours! I like that you can see it before you buy it. I think I'll make a few more!

And now about gifts. My handsome other half...I was not at all expecting a gift from him because we are going on a trip soon, and that trip was supposed to be my present. Anyway, scoring about a million boyfriend points he got me this sweet Akai Syth Station keyboard which is designed to play using it to control sounds from your iPhone. You can also use it as a regular midi controller for with things like GarageBand. Most of my readers probably don't know that in a former life, I was in a band. (that's me with the teeny blue piano). In 2009 I quit the band to move to London to live with the previously mentioned handsome fellow, and I haven't played a keyboard since. Handsome fellow is a MASSIVE synth nerd so we're always geeking out about synths, he has a great vintage collection and a crazy modular as tall as me, but it's nice to have something to noodle around on with headphones.

All in all it was a really great birthday. I'm very happy to be in my 30s now. I did a lot of fantastic stuff in my 20s but I feel like my 30s will be a bit more chilled out, mentally more than anything. It's hard to explain exactly, I guess I feel like a proper adult? I'm glad my 30s are here.

On Friday night I had a dream...but lets back track...I have a dream (it's not a very righteous dream)... A dream to one day have my own shop. Not just to sell my own things but to sell lots of lovely things that make people smile, basically all the things I'd buy for myself if I had a golden credit card that I never had to pay off. Handmade things, prints, homewares, cards yadda yadda. Anyway this is really never going to happen (unless someone anonymously deposits a large sum of cash into my bank account, email me for sort code and account number...).

I've been thinking about it a lot lately, even window shopping (unaffordable) retail spaces around London. It's nice to have a dream in case a mystery backer does turn up one day. So on friday night I had this dream that I was drawing on the windows in lovely white paint markers, it was a nice feeling! Then on Saturday we went to Berwick street to visit the Independent Label Market (heads of great indie record labels manning their own stalls intermixed with the usual fruit and veg stalls)...and I saw the window of Cass Art....

Isn't that weird!? This is basically exactly the kind of thing from my dream. I will take this as a sign and check my bank balance on regular intervals.

If you find yourself lucky enough to have access to an iPad, check out the free app Flipboard. My other half recently got an iPad and after discovering the brilliance of this app I find myself commandeering the iPad every morning. My favourite way to start the day lately going through my google reader feed with Flipboard and a cup of tea.

It's a great app because it's totally customisable, you can add things like your reader feed, twitter links (links that people tweet), instagram, flickr, londonist and plenty of other news feeds. Each feed is presented in a really lovely way, it's basically like reading a magazine (the pages even turn) tailored just for you! I love it because it's a chance to catch up on blogs without the distraction of email, twitter, facebook, blah blah blah. It really is just like sitting down to read a magazine.

I am embarking on the writing of this blog post knowing it may well be the most boring post ever but let's just see how we go. So, I have taken the plunge and ordered myself a custom made bag on Etsy. I know taking the plunge sounds so dramatic and it's just a bag! I know I know. But let me give you some background. I love bags! I love them! Not handbags for the love of god I hate handbags, I have never owned one in my life and I get deeply offended when someone refers to my "personal bag" as a handbag! Anyway, backpacks, satchels, give me them! BUT, I am super fussy. Like mega-ultra-that zip is not in precisely the right place so NO DEAL! I am frustratingly fussy. Sometimes I wish I could just walk in to a shop and pick a bag off the shelf and buy it and be content with it. But I can't. It has to have the right pocket configuration. It can't be too small. It can't be too big. It can't have some horrible brand name scrolled across it. It can't have the wrong colour hardware. I am not kidding you, the list goes on!

For some time I have been looking for an over the shoulder bag that I can fit my Nikon in to easily but that isn't a horrible massive handbag, my current bag does fit the Nikon but if its in there nothing else will fit. A while ago I found an Etsy seller who had a rather pleasing selection of bags, nothing quite right (of course) but further investigation uncovered the fact that she will customise any bag in any way you want! ANY. WAY. YOU. WANT. Umm...ok pocket here, extra pocket there, zipper on that pocket, custom colours...done and done! I have to wait just under a month to get it but I shall report back when it arrives, I know you won't be able to sleep in anticipation. Maybe it will be the perfect bag. Dare I dream it?

mother's day

Yesterday was mother's day in australia, where my mum is. I think mother's day is a really important day not only to thank your mum for..well..everything... but also to think about her and think about who she was before you came along screaming and pooing and generally taking up 24 hours of her day! I scanned a few photos that I have here in London (the reset are in her basement in Brisbane).

Swedish Summer House

Hi folks. Here's the latest in swedish house related products... I have stopped making my swedish house brooches. I do love them, but the way I was making them and the amount of colour I had to put on them meant that I would make five and one would work out without any smudges etc. I've experimented a little with some option to make them in clay but I haven't really worked out a good way to do it yet.

So..to fill the void left by those cute houses, today I devised a new summer house product! Let me introduce you to the printable, colour-in-able, cut out and assemble-able (that didn't really work did it?) Swedish summer house!

Tah-dah! As you can see it even comes with some trees and it's own lake! This was a really fun project to work on, once I started I didn't stop until it was finished! I'm not going to lie, I had fun colouring in!

Here's a couple of photos to show you the process. Not exactly thrilling stuff I know but it's the first time I've eve actually documented my process (hello new phone with excellent camera..)

This is my original quick sketch of the idea. I didn't intend to colour the whole thing in but I got a bit carried away..

Here's my prototype tree. I had to make a few before I had one that would stand up!

Here's the finished house. The first one I made was a lot taller and didn't look right at all. This one is nearly the same shape as the house on the brooch with a bonus attic window.

Here's my enthusiastically coloured trees, no need to stay in the lines if yr cutting them out! I can imaging little ones going mental colouring these in!

Here's what you get in the PDF. It's very simple to make but I've included a few minimal instructions as well.

So there you go. I hope you like it. I think this would be a fun little rainy day project for kids to do. Also because you are getting a PDF you can print it as many times as you like, so you could make a whole village, each kid can have their own house. New Phone!

Weee! So excited! After much blood boiling courier shenanigans I finally got my new iPhone4! My old phone was a 3G and even though it was just barely 2 years old, it had ground to an infuriatingly slow pace to the point where I couldn't really take photos or use the maps at all! So glad to have a great camera in my pocket! I used to do a iPhone camera app review blog but I stopped when the iPhone 4 came out because the quality of my camera was so far below it. I might start doing some reviews here from time to time.

Finally received a copy (or 3) of Frankie magazine with my illustration! Look at it, it's massive! Frankie is such a top quality magazine, I'm so honored that they liked my illustration enough to use it for their monthly poster. The lovely Lara even wrapped it in pretty tissue for me and included a sweet note. I hope lots of people put it up on their wall. If you do I would love to see a photo!

Frankie is an Australian magazine but it is available in the UK too. I don't think this issue (#43) will hit the UK until next month. You can go here to find stockists near you. I saw the previous issue for sale at the newspaper stand in Brixton tube station today, fyi!

I did a market stall at a music festival on the weekend and business was very very slow. A shame because there were loads of people, they just weren't in the mind for shopping. I did a few doodles while soaking up some sun, so it wasn't all bad.

Hi everyone. Where have I been?! Well I am in London but I did not visit the queen! I'm so sorry, that was the lamest thing ever. (blogging at 1.28am isn't the best idea..)

Anyway I've been doing a million things at once as usual. The last few days I've been working on some designs for Spoonflower fabric! It's quite exciting and I can't quite stop myself. If it didn't cost $5.00 per design to get a sample to approve it for sale I'd have hundreds of patterns up for sale already! So somewhat restrained I have designed a few and ordered a sample of just one, when it arrives I will approve it for sale and then work on some more. You can check out the patterns I've done so far here. Let me know if you really love (and want to buy) any of them and I'll get approval samples for those too so they can be purchased.

The next design I'm working on is a stationary doodle I did this evening. In testing it's tile-ability I set it as my desktop wallpaper and it looked great! So I thought I'd give it to you lovely readers to use as your own desktop. (click the image then right click and save as..but you know that...)

Also, and definitely LOADS more exciting is that I have an illustration in the new issue of FRANKIE magazine! Weeee! So exciting. It's not a tiny illustration either, it's the big poster in the middle! La-de-da. I've known it was happening for aaaages, I'm talking months and months and months but I tried not to get too excited about it until it was actually printed. I haven't seen it in person yet, I'm waiting for it to arrive from Australia and with the 45 bank holidays here this month it might take a little longer than normal! I'll be sure to share it with you when it arrives!

Apartment Garden!

We live in a tiny apartment, we definitely don't have a garden or even a balcony. I usually keep my plants on the end of our table but today my husboyfriend (thanks Able & Game for that term!) "built" me this shelf to put all my plants on! When I say built I mean he put a spare shelf we had on top of two really tall speakers. It's the perfect spot, as we come into spring and eventually summer this spot gets the most sun in the apartment, it's in direct sunlight almost all afternoon.

Today I planted a bunch of new seeds, some peas, tomatos and pak choy. I didn't have much luck with tomatos last year, they grew tall but bore no fruit, hoping for better luck this year. Also hoping to get some life out of the cactus seeds I bought at the Lambeth county fair last year. One of my tulips has popped up very quickly and has opened wider that I've ever seen a tulip open, it's kinda weird looking! I'm curious to see if the other one will do the same.

I'll keep you posted on all these plants, as long as they don't promptly die!

In other news we are going to be cat sitting for a few months, starting tonight! I'm pretty excited to meet this cat. I haven't had a pet as an adult so it's going to be great to have another creature in the flat! Photos forthcoming obviously!

Here's some watercolour painting I did last night. I've been trying to get a handle on watercolour for a while but I'd been struggling to get some results that I was happy with.

I thought that maybe the problem was that I had been using some quite cheap paint, so I decided to invest in some better quality product. I also realised that I'd been a little too impatient and gave up to quickly when I wasn't happy with the result. The final piece was that I realised I'd been using too much "colour" and not enough "water"! Suddenly it all fell in to place and I'm quite happy with the results I've been getting.

I got these cute little watercolour "trading cards", I've always preferred to work on a small scale so they are perfect!

Today is the 100th birthday of our local cinema, The Ritzy in Brixton. It's a great cinema that shows a good mix of arty/mainstream films. It's a great building too so I decided to draw it! Interestingly at some point all the ornate original features were removed and it was turned in to an almost art deco like shape. It was then restored in the 90s and now it's nearly impossible to tell that the features aren't original!

Yes yes everyone is talking about the weather. It's what being British is all about. Ok I'm not technically British but I do live here, and while I LOVE winter, snow and all that, it has been a tedious month or so with no sunshine, AT ALL. So like every other pastie person around I'm loving all this sunshine! At one end of our flat we have floor to ceiling windows with a table right in front, so I've been sitting here as much as possible while working to recharge my vitamine D.

I've been working on a few little projects here and there. I've designed some recipe cards based on my kitchen illustration. I love them and I think they look great but does anyone use recipe cards? Do you? Would you? I'd love to produce them but it could be a bit costly if no one uses them! Tell me what you think.

I wanted to share one of my favourite recipes with you, inspired by the very talented Dawn Tan I decided to paint it!

I'm not the best cook in the world, but I really love making this because it's so easy and so delicious! It's a great way to use up excess veggies you might have. I often also include courgettes and Pak Choy. The Instant Miso is an absolute must if you can't find it, you can use a dash of soy sauce in it's place.

My friend Shoko who lives in Tokyo is Selling these cute little brooches with 100% of the profits going to the Japanese Red Cross. It's another great way to donate a small amount to help Japan rebuild.

I met Shoko when my band was on our first tour of Japan in 2006. She was our translator and I can tell you that if you are a vegetarian in Japan, you need a translator! Shoko is an amazing, creative girl, with equally amazing pink hair! She recently opened an Etsy store to sell her very cool felt "Secret Agent" characters. Hello, me again. There is a lot going on in the online artistic community with regards to fundraising, it's getting a bit bamboozling. But here is a great way to make a small donation.

Australian artist Ebony Bizys is based in Toyko. Among many other things she has created a really great zine all about gift wrapping. If you pop over to her blog Hello Sandwich you can now buy it for $5USD with ALL of the proceeds going to the Red Cross. Not only is it obviously a great cause but it's a great product too. I bought it a while ago (and again today to donate) and it's packed with lots of cute ideas to decorate gifts. There are some simple yet fun little projects to try if your creative spark is feeling a little dim.

Hi friends. I'm sorry, I've not got much to say. Things in Japan are still weighing heavy on my mind and on my heart. I haven't been feeling very cheerful.

I'm still here, drawing away and experimenting with some new materials to make brooches. Today I went for a short walk to take some pictures and clear my head. Signs of spring are all around, though it's still very cold. The sun has not been sighted for days and days.

Weekend Update

Yesterday I was at the Wonder Hill High Market in Highgate selling my wares. I have to be honest, after following Friday's events in Japan I didn't much feel like smiling and selling my silly brooches. I have a lot of friends in Japan, thankfully they are all ok but the whole thing is so upsetting. It must have been so scary for everyone who was there, and with after shocks still going and going, I'm sure people aren't getting much sleep. If I was there I'm sure I would be a nervous wreck. I hope everyone can stay strong and get through this difficult time.

So, the market ended up being a lovely day, it was quite nice being away from glowing rectangles for a whole day. My lovely other half came down to keep me company all day and a few friends, Henrik, Caroline and Kim who live near by popped in to say hello. The Boogaloo is a great pub, I'm sure the market will reach full swing and be great in summer, hopefully I'll be back there soon.

Japan Centre Treats

I went to the Japan Centre last night to pick up a few of my favourite Japanese treats. If you're in London check it out.

Let's Pretz! Soft pretzel like sticks, I love them! They taste a little like Dixie Drum Sticks.

Rice Ball Seasoning. You mix it with cooked rice then squash them in to balls. My Japanese friend Koji introduced me to this great stuff.

A Melon Bun. I know it sounds weird but it really a sweet is melon flavoured bun, oiishi desu!

Another rice seasoning product, this one is sesame and sea salt, in a very cute dispenser.

Red Bean Cake. One of my favourite Japanese foods, often sold by street vendors.

Here you can see the red bean filling. It's not overly sweet and is a bit of an acquired taste but I love it!

My favourite Japanese drink. It's often called Afternoon Tea and of course is sold in the vending machines that are located on every corner. It's not as overpoweringly sweet as things like Lipton ice tea. Refreshing!

Went for a quick outing to Clapham Common today to get some yarn, took a few snaps on the way. The weather has been total pants for days and days and days! The commercial signs of spring are everywhere, bulbs for sale, short dresses in the shops etc. Meanwhile I'm still perched on top of the heater. Catching Up

I've been thinking about blogging this week but I've been busy doing unphotographable things. That sounds bad. What I mean is, I've been working on an illustration that I can blog about yet. And then we had to lend our camera to a friend which made me feel like someone told me I had to give away my child (I don't have a child so you can see how I have no perspective here..). Also the dog ate my homework.

ANYWAY... I took these with my phone this afternoon. I got this new app that pretends to be lomo an I quite like it. And I'm sorry but in keeping with my crappiness I can't tell you what the app is called because the name and description are in KOREAN! But I took a punt because the screenshot looked cool and there you have it.

Ok in other news I did do some painting on porcelain tonight and it looks rather lovely, so when the sun comes up tomorrow I will photograph it! The mug, not the sun.

I'd like to introduce you to what is, I suppose my side project. I've opened a new little Etsy store called Sandwich of the Month. I say little because I've only listed one item so far, but hey, that item is the amazingly awesome AIRMAIL TWINE!

One of my favourite things about being a seller on Etsy is packing up orders to send off to customers. I love to gift wrap each item that I send and the customers love receiving their item that way, like a gift from themselves!

I love to source a whole lot of different materiels to wrap things, but I find there to be very few people selling these lovely thing from the UK, consequently I've have to wait weeks and pay loads more for shipping. That's why I decided to open this store, as a way for UK folks to get cheap supplies quickly and without the international shipping costs!

I'll be getting some more items in over the coming weeks so favourite the store to stay up to date! I hope you like what I've started out with!

Today there was a some nice light coming into our flat so I thought I'd snap some pics of a few things that I've made, bought and received lately.

Last night I made this little Swedish Dala Horse. I cut the shape out of cardboard then covered it in some Japanese masking tape, which I'm totally addicted to. I really love Dalas, I've been saying that they are going to be the next "hip" thing on Etsy and beyond this year. I'm really hoping we can pop over to Sweden this year and I can buy a real one!

A couple of charity/op/thrift shop finds I got last week. Couldn't resist the little brass deer for only 50p and I love the map illustration on this Devon mug. I've never been to Devon, my Aunty used to live there when I was little (and living in Australia) and I quite like a good Devonshire Tea so I should really check it out one day.

Lastly, my mum sent me this fantastic set of Russian doll measuring cups for Christmas. It's funny how sometimes my mum picks the best gifts ever, like she read my mind! I love Russian dolls and I'd seen these in Paperchase here before and resisted buying them for myself quite a few times. They are very cleverly made, each half of each doll is a different measure, it must have taken the designers ages to make it all work!

Goccoing

Last night I did some Gocco printing. I feel like every time I do some printing I learn something new. I needed to print more of my Burrito cards because Valentine's day is coming up and I'd nearly run out. Last time I printed these, I was happy with the end result, but a bit disappointed in the difference between my original design and the print. Because of this I decided to redraw the design and burn another screen. I did that and the screen looked great, so I inked up and did a print. Disappointingly it was really blobby. Thinking that the only thing that was the same this time was the ink, I scraped all of it off the screen and reinked with a second tube of red ink that I had. Tada! Perfect print! Just as much detail as the original drawing. I guess the first ink tube was off, a bit of oil came out of the tube before ink when I squeezed it, but I'd read about that happening so I didn't think it was a problem, I wish I'd realised last time!

So lots more cards in stock! Pick one up for your loved one!

In an effort to blog more, I'd like to tell you about some of my favourite places in the world. Or rather, show you...

First up, here's is glorious Brockwell Park in London. I live quite close to the park and I adore it. In summer it's fields are ablaze with green, the lido is sparkling, the ducks are quacking, the cherry blossoms are out.. in winter, when it snows, the expanse of white is breathtaking. The park is so massive that you can be in complete serene quiet one moment, only the sound of crunching snow under foot, then walk a moment or two and come across literally hundreds of people sledging down the hill. On the way you might pass someone on cross country skiis or a snowboard. It's an amazing place.

Hello hello,

I hope you had a nice relaxing Christmas break! We had a great time in Cambodia and a few days in Kuala Lumpur too. Things got off to a bumpy start when our flight was delayed due to the snow. We left 12 hours after we were scheduled to, which meant that we missed our connecting flight from Kuala Lumpur to Phnom Penh. All airport hotels were booked which meant we had a lovely evening in KL airport ahead of us, which was fine until we got kicked out of the airport because they were fumigating it! Anyway, boring transit stories aside, we did have a great time! The highlight was probably the few days that we hired a motorbike in Kampot and zoomed around the countryside, lots of fun! Here's some photos from the trip...

Well I hope everyone is feeling suitable festive by now. I'm going to Cambodia over Christmas and new year, leaving in just over a week! There is no Christmas in Cambodia and definitely no snow, so I think I'm subconsciously trying to soak up all the seasonal cheer before I go and swap my snow boots for sandals.

Let It Snow

We've had a nice dumping of snow here in London overnight and today. A little earlier than usual but quite welcome!

In other news I've been working on a few new things that have recently gone up in the shop. A new brooch, a blue haired version of my beardy quiff man and a necklace with some pencils, a cute little gift for any stationary enthusiast! I even drew each backing card as a little piece of loose leaf paper (complete with punches), by hand!

USA & Eastern Europe- December 10th
